As the mercury level rises, so rises the scorching heat of the summer and sweating sensation.
It is at times like these that one remembers the cool food and beverages.
As the rays of the sun begin to intensify, the throat becomes dry and one begins to yearn for the feel
of coolness. Yet, in today’s time, it is possible to enjoy these foods not only during the summer but all around the year.
It is said that kulfi was invented on the recommendation of Emperor Akbar. The Kulfi is
mentioned in the book Ain-i- Akbari. However, historians say that the history of Kulfi is even older.
With such a long history, Kulfi has become an integral part of our culture. With this history,
kulfi is ingrained in our mind and is associated not only with the eating but many memories too.
The lion's share in giving this recognition to kulfi goes to Ladachi Kulfi! The brand Ladachi Kulfi has
succeeded in giving a facelift to the meager and indigenous kulfi. Behind it stands immense hard work of Rahul Papal.
Today he stands as a good example of what a person can achieve on the strength of grit, vision and hard work. Nowadays,
attractive vehicles (food trucks) of Ladachi Kulfi can be spotted on several main roads in Pune
This business was of kulfi and not icecream. He had his own reason behind it."Kulfi is an indigenous food. Kulfi is a
genuinely Indian food made from milkIt appeals to people of all age groups. This is why I decided to sell kulfi from day one," he says.
After experimenting with different flavors and varieties for about four years, the first branch of Ladachi Kulfi was started at Garware
Central Mall in April 2018 and that too in the form of a cycle rickshaw
As the mercury level rises, so rises the scorching heat of the summer and sweating sensation. It is at times like these that one remembers the cool food and beverages. As the rays of the sun begin to intensify, the throat becomes dry and one begins to yearn for the feel of coolness. Yet, in today’s time, it is possible to enjoy these foods not only during the summer but all around the year. As a result, such outlets are frequented to assuage the heat as well as chatting and enjoying the best of the cool varieties.
However, in today’s age, more and more people are turning to traditional foods and this is why our original Indian food of every type is gaining more popularity. This holds true even for Kulfi, the ultimate food for summer. Without a doubt, the icecream has its own attractions, but can it match the enjoyment one has when one has kulfi? This is because ice cream has little to do with ice and cream. In contrast, kulfi is made from genuine milk. It is not only tasty (delicious) but also nutritious.
The taste of kulfi is so different from ice cream! It contains neither eggs nor custard milk. The biggest difference is that ice cream is made lighter by whipping air in it. On the contrary, kulfi is full of cream than air.
It is said that kulfi was invented on the recommendation of Emperor Akbar. The Kulfi is mentioned in the book Ain-i-Akbari. However, historians say that the history of Kulfi is even older. With such a long history, Kulfi has become an integral part of our culture.
With this history, kulfi is ingrained in our mind and is associated not only with the eating but many memories too. The word kulfi brings images of our childhood. In the month of April-May, rickshaw-puller uncle would bring kulfi and the kids would have a kulfi party. It was the kulfi which the kids would demand to their grandparents during summer vacation!
A bold entrepreneur has successfully attempted to bring that kulfi from the cycle rickshaw in a new form that suits the modern era and that too from that cycle rickshaw itself. The kulfis journey from rickshaw to an independent outlet of kulfi is astonishing, extremely promising. The kulfi has grown so much as to be sold in independent outlets from being sold on streets. An independent identity of kulfi is being created.
The lion's share in giving this recognition to kulfi goes to Ladachi Kulfi! The brand Ladachi Kulfi has succeeded in giving a facelift to the meager and indigenous kulfi. Behind it stands immense hard work of Rahul Papal. Today he stands as a good example of what a person can achieve on the strength of grit, vision and hard work. Nowadays, attractive vehicles (food trucks) of Ladachi Kulfi can be spotted on several main roads in Pune. Puneites throng to these food trucks as they get quality kulfis at very affordable rates. This popularity is gained after a long and toiling journey. Behind it stands the study, imagination and hard work of a man with a goal.
Rahul Papal and his Ladachi Kulfi have succeeded in popularizing the common kulfi on the strength of innovation and experiments. That too within a year. Papal, who is uneducated in worldly parameters, is only 32 years of age today. He is educated only up to eighth grade. He dropped out after failing thrice in the eighth class. However, he excelled in marketing due to his excellent public relations and communication skills.
He is the owner of a fast-growing business venture today. Papal worked as a salesman in an ice cream company for a few years. During this time, he learned all the tricks of the ropes in the trade. This is where he got the idea of what consumers wanted, what was available in the market and what was not as well as what could be sold if presented anew. However, realizing that his imagination and vigor faced limits while working as a salesman, Papal decided to venture out on his own.
This business was of kulfi and not icecream. He had his own reason behind it."Kulfi is an indigenous food. Kulfi is a genuinely Indian food made from milk. It appeals to people of all age groups. This is why I decided to sell kulfi from day one," he says.
After experimenting with different flavors and varieties for about four years, the first branch of Ladachi Kulfi was started at Garware Central Mall in April 2018 and that too in the form of a cycle rickshaw. However, since he was determined from the start to grow this venture, he started this first branch with a registered trademark. This means that the brand Ladachi Kulfi has been established since day one. The purpose behind this naming was to develop it as a brand of Marathi people.
It was decided to run and grow their business on the basis of quality, variety, and integrity. Thus, Papal continued to serve customers as per their preferences without compromising with the quality of the service. This is why the first branch earned a profit of Rs. 49 thousand 200 in the first month of the business itself. The branch was given a Puneri theme to make the brand more appealing to people and six flavors were made available.
